Fouray

'Four' most occasions, eh?

Jay Cousins, Brian Cullingworth, Jim Mick, and Barry Jones created Fouray in the fall of 2010. Each having sung with other quartets for over 15 years, they joined forces to sing barbershop music and compete within the Barbershop Harmony Society, winning their division’s Seniors Quartet Championship in 2011. In May 2015 Barry retired, and the young whippersnapper, Rod McDonald, close to 55 years old (the magic age to become a "senior" within the Barbershop Society), auditioned and passed to join the three older guys.

It's been a nonstop roller-coaster ride since then, expanding from competitions to more public venue performances, including birthdays, anniversaries, singing Valentines, and even a jingle for a TV advertising video. Fouray was again crowned Seniors Quartet Champions within their division in 2016 and 2018, and also created a sixteen-song CD. Just prior to 2019 Covid shutdown Fouray participated in very successful show performances at Courtenay’s Sid Williams Theatre and at Nanaimo’s Port Theatre.

Fast forward to 2023: James Chappell has replaced Rod to take the bass part, and baritone Don Dickson
has replaced Jim. Fouray has moved beyond the barbershop genre and added modern a capella arrangements from the Four Tops, the Dave Clark 5, Uncle Kracker, The Eagles and the Four Lads, to name a few.
